2. Experience Remote Locations as if You Were There! We Are Conducting a Pilot Test of an Immersive Remote Tourism Experience

NEC Communication Systems,
Ltd., GeoTechnologies, Inc.,
and NEC Corporation are conducting
a pilot test of a remote
tourism experience using
new virtual technology that
allows users to experience
sensations typically felt
on-site from a remote location.In
addition to being held at
Shinagawa Station, this pilot
test is also being conducted
at Fukushima Station as part
of the "Fukushima Destination
Campaign."
Inside the immersive system
booth, visitors can virtually
experience the climate, landscape,
and environment of Fukushima
Prefecture—including the
"Sunflower Fields on the
Windy Plateau of Koriyama
Nunobiki," "Azuma Orchard,"
"Mugenkyō Ferry," and "Shioya
Cape"—through a combination
of visuals, sound, and scent,
to convey the appeal of Fukushima
Prefecture.
The experiment aims to verify
whether this immersive experience
motivates visitors to travel
to the region and influences
their purchasing behavior.
