Hello, this is the Customer Success team at GeoTechnologies Inc.
As we receive various questions daily at the MapFan API support desk, we often realize, "We could have explained this more clearly..."
Therefore, we've looked back at the questions received in the first half of fiscal year 2025 and compiled the TOP 3 most frequently asked questions.
We hope you find this helpful.
#1: "I want to know how PVs are counted"
Q. Questions we received:
"When are page views counted?"
"Are they counted every time I scroll the map?"
"I'd like to see a list of the actions that count as page views."
Page views (PV) are a key metric that is directly tied to pricing plans. From a cost management perspective, this is definitely something you’ll want to understand thoroughly.
A. 💡 Why are page views important?
MapFan API uses a pricing structure based on page views. In other words, accurately understanding which actions count as page views is key to forecasting and managing costs.
Rather than panicking during the development phase when you realize, "We have more page views than expected!", understanding the specifications in advance enables efficient system design.
📖 Understanding page views (PV) with concrete examples
To address the question, "What kinds of actions are counted?", here are two common examples:
Example ①: When multiple stores are returned by a POI search
When you search by store name and multiple stores are returned in the search results
→ Executing the spot API one time is counted as 1 PV
Whether the search results return 1 or 10 stores, executing the API one time is counted as 1 PV.
Example ②: When scrolling or zooming the map
When scrolling the map or changing the scale within a displayed map page
→ For raster maps, displaying the map page one time is counted as 1 PV. Scrolling or changing the scale of the map within the map page once displayed is not counted into the PV.
📌 How to check detailed counting methods
Specific information about "which operations are counted as how many PVs" is detailed in the MapFan API Reference, which is stored in the same location as the technical specifications.
Downloading the MapFan API Reference:
