🚗 Case 2: How Time-of-Day Restrictions Are Applied
【Question】
For MapFan API, at what point in time are time zone restrictions reflected.
【Answer】
MapFan API evaluates time zone restrictions for the entire route based on the departure time.
Consider the following scenario:
• Departure time: 9:00 AM
• Arrival time: 10:00 AM
• A road with a "restriction until 9:00 AM" exists along the route
In this case, although the actual passage through that road occurs after 9:00 AM, the restriction status at the departure time (9:00 AM) is applied. Therefore, the road is judged as subject to the restriction.
Example with Ginza Street:
Ginza Street and Chuo Street have traffic regulations every Saturday, Sunday, and national holiday:
• Regulation start: 12:00 PM
• Regulation end: 6:00 PM (April to September), 5:00 PM (October to March)
When searching for a route including this road:
▼ Setting departure time to "12:00 PM" on Saturday
→ The route is judged to be under regulation, and a detour route is displayed.
▼ Setting departure time to "11:59 AM" on Saturday
→ The route is judged to be before regulations begin, and a route via Ginza Street is displayed.
In summary: The determination is based on the departure time, not the actual time of passage.
■ Common follow-up question: Does changing the departure date alter the route?
Yes, it does.
Some roads have different traffic regulations depending on the day of the week (e.g., "Closed to traffic on weekdays only," "One way on weekends/holidays only"). Therefore, the route and total distance may vary depending on the day of the week.
